My first visit to the OB/GYN (plus an editorial update)

by Andrew on November 10, 2009

It’s funny the things you don’t think about. The script for A BEAUTIFUL BELLY always glossed over the early months of pregnancy, with the bulk of the story taking place in the early third trimester, so I never really had to think through the first OB visit for Jason and Danny.

My wife, Angelyn, spent over a week trying to decide which doctor to go to, which hospital to use, whether or not we’d even use a hospital or go for a birthing center instead, and whether to choose a doctor or a midwife. She finally opted for a doc recommended by a friend. My opinion on the matter mostly amounted to “whatever makes you comfortable, love.”

So today we had our first doctor’s appointment, my first visit to an OB/GYN. The doctor was very friendly, and though he bears more than a passing resemblance to Dr. Nick Riviera from the Simpsons, we feel like we’ll be in good hands. Unfortunately, we’re too early in the term for an ultrasound, so we’ll go back the right before Thanksgiving. It basically amounted to a meet-and-greet, and he assured us that we’re likely in for a very low-risk pregnancy and gave Angelyn a truck load of free vitamins.

All of this, of course, has no direct bearing on the post production of our film, which is why you check in here in the first place. There’s not a whole lot new to report, except that we’ve successfully managed to trim the film by about 15-minutes. Morgan (our editor) and I are thrilled with the improvements in the latest cut and feel like we’ve really narrowed in on the final shape of the film. I’ll be sending off a DVD this week for our composer, Jason Kupfer, so that he can begin his work. Now it’s about small tweaks (plus a quick pickup shoot in December), and we’ll be ready to screen for test audiences in January.

I can’t promise a trailer in the immediate future, but I’ll post up the first ultrasound photo when I get one! That’s something, right? Or not. Shrug.

Thanks for sticking with us. We really look forward to getting everyone some footage to see.

Best,

Andrew
